Something I love about the WordPress community are the meetups and WordCamps.
However, the last WordPress event I attended was my local WordCamp San Diego in 2017. And it had been some months before then, that I had attended my last local WordPress Meetup.
I had found our local WordPress meetup group very educational, and enjoyed the conversations with other members before and after the presentations.
But it seems that the lockdown culture never really lifted for the group. Online sessions were being scheduled, but in-person meetups were not being organized.
That all changed this month.
Without going into great detail, I was really grateful to learn that Devin Walker, one of the original members/founders of what was then called AWP (Advanced WordPress), was rebooting the ol’ meetup. He provides some history and context in this post on his personal site.
Our group met in-person, for the first time in years, this past Oct 16th. I have to say that it felt good to shake hands and have those conversations again. I got to meet some new folks, reconnect with past acquaintances, and put a couple of names and faces together from online conversations.

Overall, it was a great reboot and I look forward to the next one – and beyond..
