How It Works

There’s not any wiggle room to get this one done, so the choices are pretty simple and come down to 2 hosting providers: BlueHost + DreamHost.

Starting off with Skiff

To streamline the process, a new encrypted Skiff.com email account will be created and used to setup all the other accounts. Skiff.com also lets customers use 1 custom domain email address with every free account.

Step 1: Domain + Hosting

Both DreamHost + BlueHost offer a free domain with hosting plan at extremely discounted rates for the first year. The regular subscription plan thereafter still remains economical.

The process of choosing your domain name should take some thought and be intentional. If your business name is available and not lengthy, then it would make the most sense to go ahead and register it.

If not, then I recommend taking some time to research and consider how your customers will try to find you online, and what words they might use when searching for your product or service.

Step 2: Custom Email

Thoughtful branding efforts can create a sense of trust and separate you from the competition. One of the easiest, and surprisingly, most effective ways to do this, is by having a matching custom domain email address.

A custom domain email address is one where your website URL is used for the hosted server name. For example, my custom domain email address is Leif@LEIFQ.me compared to my Proton email which is, LeifQ@ProtonMail.com

Using Gmail, Yahoo, ProtonMail, or any other similar email addresses for your business contact could unintentionally communicate a lack of professionalism or legitimacy to customers who are not familiar with your establishment.

Not only will your custom domain email address show that you care about your brand (and therefore your customers), but will also provide a direct path to your website.

Your new business email can be set up to integrate with most email clients like Firefox Thunderbird, Apple Mail, etc.

The domain can also be mapped to secure email providers like Skiff and Proton, which is the recommended method.

Step 3: WordPress Website

With your new domain and hosting account in place, and business email address in service, it’s time to get your WordPress website installed and published.

The answer to that question is scalability.

The effort and cost to create a single page website is going to be the same (or more economical) using WordPress vs a simple static HTML page. The value becomes more apparent as your website grows along with your business.

To get an idea of the types of websites being built on WordPress, I encourage you to take a look at the showcase page on WordPress.org. You’ll also find a list of household brand names that have built their business websites on the WordPress CMS, which currently drives approximately 40% of all websites on the internet.
