Hello World!

Here we go again!

After a 5 year hiatus from running a web-based business – I have returned.

Ramping up

It’s been a pretty intense couple of months getting up to speed on WordPress and digging into the current trends of digital marketing for small businesses.

Part of this process has included updating my own websites along with starting a couple of side projects. So it’s been a fast and steep learning curve.

Block Themes and FSE

One of the biggest changes to WordPress in the past few years is Gutenberg, Block Themes, and Full Site Editing (FSE).

This week, I dove pretty deep into these topics, especially FSE where I’m just about to finish the 4th crash course on Learn.WordPress.org. I believe this is a big game changer for the WP ecosystem, much like Revit/BIM was for CAD back when I was still working in the architectural drafting world, and am fully committed to being at the forefront of the change.

So much so that I’ve rejoined the WordPress community and will be contributing to the training – or Learning – team.

Showing some restraint

My initial inclination was to build this site from scratch in the FSE. But after thinking through it, I’ve decided it would just take too much time. The best option would be to launch what I have now, then upgrade later. As one boss once told me, “Done is better than perfect.”

Seth Godin* also has a classic riff on why we fear shipping, though I wouldn’t say I’m restrained by fear at the moment. At least not totally.

At some point, you have to ship.
Otherwise, you’re not a business,
you’re just ‘playing store’.

That said, I am in the process of creating a base theme from scratch that I can (possibly) use as a starter theme for future projects. If you’re interested in following along with development, I’m using my old site https://quitevisiblestudio.com as a live sandbox.

Follow and Subscribe

Anything I post here will only relate to the business and site. I share most of my thoughts and exploits over on https://quitevisible.com so please head over and like/subscribe to my posts.

I’m Open for Business!

That’s a wrap for my first post on LEIFQ.me! I’d be grateful if you’d help me spread the word to anyone you think might need my help or benefit from my services.

Business cards are on the way as I write edit this (05.20.23) but no need to wait – I’ll leave one here that you can download now.

Thx!
