The newly resurgent San Diego WordPress Meetup is starting to find its rhythm. With our third in-person meetup packed out and in the books, 2026 is off to a strong start.
Local Meetup organizer and newly minted Jetpack lead, Devin Walker, leveraged some clout and opportunity to bring in a few Automattician heavy hitters. The topic was AI in WordPress, and the A-team showed up.
After individual presentations explaining their contributions in the ascendant AI project within WordPress, James LePage and Jason Adams teamed up to field questions from attendees.
My key takeaway from the evening was, recognizing how raw and unpredictable the AI space continues to be at this point in time. The technology is (and has always been) powerful, and full of potential. But it seems the current era has produced the means and vehicles to apply ideas and prove certain claims of what AI can do.
That, and how the lead WordPress contributors are striving to be at the front of the pack on this one.
